Needy families in Louisiana are urged to apply quickly for a free statewide program that provides child safety seats and education on proper installation. Demand is typically high for the program organized by University Medical Center New Orleans and the Louisiana Passenger Safety Task Force in partnership with the state’s SONIC Drive-In restaurants.
Louisiana is known to have one of the highest death rates caused by heart disease in the United States. However, statistics from the Center for Disease Control have shown that over the past 35 years, Louisiana’s heart disease death rates have dropped significantly in the areas served by CIS.
In the next few months, the Orleans Parish Medical Society (OPMS) and Jefferson Parish Medical Society (JPMS) will provide the following CME related to the opioid epidemic, physician burnout, and social determinants in healthcare. The two organizations will also host a meeting in September with Louisiana Secretary of Health, Rebekah Gee, MD.

St. Bernard Parish Hospital (SBPH) has named Alanna R. Fast, “Lani” as associate administrator. In the role, Fast will provide oversight and leadership for the hospital and satellite clinic locations serving Chalmette and New Orleans East. She will report to St. Bernard Parish Hospital CEO, Kim Keene.
