On Nov. 2, North Oaks Shock Trauma Center, in partnership with the North Oaks Foundation and Southeastern Louisiana University’s School of Nursing, will host the second annual “Prepared for the Unexpected” Trauma Symposium.

“Our goal is to provide national caliber education for trauma providers in our region,” said Dr. Marquinn Duke, trauma program medical director for North Oaks Shock Trauma Center.

Several regional and local leaders with expertise in trauma care will headline the event.

Louisiana Healthcare Connections has announced the award of $45,000 in grant funds to three nonprofit organizations in support of community-level projects focused on reducing food insecurity and hunger in Louisiana.

Award recipients include:

• Abraham’s Tent Association of Lake Charles, for its Feeding Program to provide meals to low income individuals and families in Calcasieu Parish.
