Gerald S. Berenson, MD, Boyd Professor of Cardiology at LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine, recently passed away while visiting family in Houston. He was 96 years old. Berenson was an internationally known physician-scientist whose work helped shape the understanding of the causes of heart disease.
A new audit says Louisiana’s health department may have paid as much as $85 million over 20 months for Medicaid enrollees who didn’t qualify for coverage.
Legislative Auditor Daryl Purpera’s office released the audit. Auditors found problems with the department’s use of wage data to determine eligibility for people enrolled in Louisiana’s Medicaid expansion program.

Eleven Ochsner Health System facilities, including four partner hospitals, were awarded an ‘A’ from The Leapfrog Group’s Fall 2018 Hospital Safety Grade. This designation recognizes efforts in protecting patients from harm and meeting the highest safety standards in the United States.
