Ochsner Health System has announced a minimum wage increase from $8.10 per hour to $12 per hour, effective Jan. 20, 2019. This initiative will increase overall annual pay to more than 1,200 employees across the health system.

Touro Infirmary announced it has been re-designated as a Gift facility, Louisiana’s primary breastfeeding designation. The Louisiana Department of Health – Office of Public Health – Bureau of Family Health awards The Gift designation statewide to Louisiana birthing facilities who improve hospital practices and policies that are aligned with the evidence-based, internationally recognized Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding of the WHO/UNICEF Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative.

Former NICU patients or “graduates” of North Oaks Medical Center and their family members were honored during an event at the E. Brent Dufreche Conference Center, within North Oaks Diagnostic Center in Hammond.

Sometimes, a baby may be born prematurely or with a health condition that requires admission to the NICU, and the baby’s stay may range from a few days to as long as six months.

With extended lengths of stay, it is natural for a strong bond to form between medical personnel and the families, according to Scott Landry, lead nurse practitioner.

The University of Queensland (UQ) Ochsner Clinical School honored the graduating class of 2018 with a culmination ceremony on Nov. 17 at the Jefferson Performing Arts Center. The ceremony featured Lawrence M. Opas, MD, associate dean for Graduate Medical Education, Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California, as the keynote speaker.
