Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among American women. In 2017, it is estimated that roughly 30% of newly diagnosed cancers in women will be breast cancers. In the United States, about one in eight women will develop invasive breast cancer in her lifetime.
Through research, fundraisers, and medical advancements, there has been encouraging improvement in screening, survival, and cosmetic outcomes for breast cancer patients.
Jody Martin has been named Chief Legal Officer for LCMC Health, serving as the system’s primary legal advisor. In this capacity, Martin will oversee all legal matters for the system and serve as the primary legal advisor to the LCMC Health leadership team, the Board of Trustees, and its five member hospitals. He will manage the system’s legal, compliance, and risk management functions, and advise on a multitude of legal matters.
North Oaks Health System and the Boy Scouts of America are offering students, with an interest in healthcare as a career, the opportunity to join Medical Explorers Post 940. Students must be ages 14-20 to participate.
Post 940 enables high school and college students to “explore” at a career fair where many types of medical professionals talk about what their work is really like. Medical Explorers also will have the opportunity to observe in North Oaks facilities during school holidays.
Lakeview Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Center, a campus of Tulane Medical Center, announced that they now offer direct access to physical therapy services. This means that an individual can be evaluated and treated by a physical therapist without first seeing their physician for a prescription referral. This improved access to providers who are experts in musculoskeletal issues and movement disorders will also lessen the burden on primary care physicians.
