St. Tammany Health System cut the ribbon on a new family medicine clinic in north Covington that, in addition to expanding access to medical care for local residents, will educate the region’s next generation of family medicine physicians as part of the health system’s first-in-the-region family medicine residency program.

Terrebonne General Health System, in partnership with the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency (LOPA) and Southern Eye Bank, hosted a flag raising and butterfly release ceremony on April 23 during National Donate Life Month. This event honored those who have given the gift of life through organ, tissue, and eye donation. At the ceremony, attendees heard from speakers who were organ donors, organ recipients, and living organ donors. There were performances by the Vandebelles of Vandebilt Catholic High School and butterflies were released as a sign of new life.

On April 26, a ribbon cutting ceremony was hosted at St. Tammany Health System and Ochsner Health’s new family medicine clinic in North Covington that, in addition to expanding access to medical care for local residents, will serve as a medical education facility for a Family Medicine Residency Program.

Terrebonne General Health System announced the recent acquisition of the Ion endoluminal system for lung cancer biopsies. Ion is designed to address a challenging aspect of lung biopsy by enabling physicians to obtain tissue samples from deep within the lung. The Ion system features an ultra-thin, ultra-maneuverable1 catheter that allows navigation far into the peripheral lung, and unprecedented stability enables the precision needed for biopsy compared to manual techniques.1

Terrebonne General Health System congratulated Margaret Ellender, BSN, RN, CCM, for receiving the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing-Xi Zeta Chapter 2024 Excellence Award for Nurse Clinician. The award recognizes nurses who consistently practice excellence in a clinical setting, in nursing education, and/or in nursing leadership.
