State officials have clarified information initially made public Tuesday about an increase in deaths and illnesses related to a flesh-eating bacteria. Most people have been infected when their open wounds have been exposed to water with the pathogen, but some cases might have involved people who ate oysters harvested in Louisiana.
Beverly Gladney, MD, has joined the Louisiana Hospital Association (LHA) as vice president of clinical affairs. In this role, she will lead clinical and professional initiatives for the LHA and its member hospitals, with a focus on physician-hospital integration, professional education, quality improvement, and patient safety.

Terrebonne General Health System (Terrebonne General) and Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) announced the successful completion of its 1,000th Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) procedure.
The TAVR program, launched in 2012, offers patients with severe aortic stenosis a life-saving, less invasive alternative to open-heart surgery.
