St. Tammany Parish Hospital Board of Commissioners approved a new entry level wage of $12 per hour, which was effective Jan. 20.
“We felt this was the right thing to do for our staff, the smart strategy to take for our business, and a powerful impact to have on our local economy,” said Board Chairman John Evans. “In recognition of the increasingly complex demands of working in healthcare, we want to stay competitive so that we continue to attract and retain the very best healthcare staff in our region.”
Dr. John Breaux, a cardiothoracic vascular surgeon at Lakeview Regional Medical Center, a campus of Tulane Medical Center, recently performed four complex open heart surgical procedures during the same operation, becoming the first surgeon in the United States to execute this type of surgery involving a series of procedures that each depended on the other.
Three area physicians have been selected by their peers to serve on the North Oaks Rehabilitation Hospital Medical executive committee for 2019. These officers will serve as liaisons between the medical staff and the North Oaks Rehabilitation Hospital board of managers.
Dr. Paul Harch, clinical professor and director of hyperbaric medicine at LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine, and Dr. Edward Fogarty, chairman of radiology at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine, report the first PET scan-documented case of improvement in brain metabolism in Alzheimer’s disease in a patient treated with hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT). The report was published in the current issue of the peer-reviewed journal Medical Gas Research.
