Ochsner Health is offering blood and platelet donors at participating Ochsner Blood Bank sites a free COVID-19 antibody test. This special incentive will run through July 5 to encourage the public to donate.

Ochsner blood banks, like blood banks across the nation, are currently experiencing a critical blood shortage. All blood types are needed, especially platelets and Type O red cells.

Ochsner Health is providing community COVID-19 testing locations in the greater New Orleans and Northshore regions for June 9-12. Testing is open to Louisiana residents, age two and older. Ochsner has completed more than 10,000 COVID-19 community tests across the state since May 5.

Members of the community who wish to be tested should bring an ID and insurance card, if applicable. There are no out-of-pocket costs for those seeking a test and no one will be turned away based on their insurance status.

The McNulty Foundation, in partnership with the Aspen Global Leadership Network, has donated $7,500 to LSU Health New Orleans to support its community COVID-19 testing effort.

“This donation will assist our efforts to strategically deploy COVID-19 tests to high-risk groups and/or underserved communities,” said Lucio Miele, MD, PhD, who heads up COVID-19 and antibody testing at LSU Health New Orleans.

The contribution comes from the Global Response Fund launched by the McNulty Foundation in partnership with the Aspen Global Leadership Network (AGLN).
