The Louisiana Department of Health will hold a press conference on Feb. 12 to launch the inaugural catalyst site hospitals for Project M.O.M., an initiative to reduce maternal mortality associated with substance use. These hospitals' leadership and commitment will advance evidence-based, compassionate care for pregnant and postpartum women impacted by substance use disorder across Louisiana.

Manning Family Children’s received notification by the American College of Surgeons following a virtual site visit in December that the organization has been verified as a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center. Level I Trauma Centers differ not only in clinical capability, but in their leadership role within the larger trauma system.

Terrebonne General Health System (Terrebonne General), continues its role managing operations for Physicians Medical Center (PMC), supporting the organization’s ongoing efforts to provide outpatient surgical care.

As part of this ongoing management arrangement, Terrebonne General oversees day-to-day operations, helping ensure multispecialty outpatient care in a convenient, comfortable setting. PMC offers both same-day surgeries and overnight stays in a boutique-style setting.  A variety of procedures are performed at PMC.

Humana Inc. has launched a $3 milliion scholarship fund for incoming medical students at Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine. The fund provides annual full tuition scholarships for incoming medical students, helping to address physician workforce shortages.

Xavier University of Louisiana and Ochsner Health founded XOCOM in April 2024.

DePaul Community Health Centers (DCHC) is once again offering free dental screenings and fluoride treatments for children on Give Kids A Smile Day, Saturday, March 7.

The event will take place at DCHC’s Carrollton location (3201 S. Carrollton Ave.) from 8 a.m.-Noon and serve children ages one to 10 years old. In addition to receiving free oral health screenings, children will enjoy face-painting, balloon art, games, music from a DJ, and more. Last year’s event served more than 240 children.
