Lakeview Regional Medical Center Teaches Life-Saving Measures at 'Stop the Bleed'

Lakeview Regional Medical Center, a campus of Tulane Medical Center, recently conducted a community outreach program focused on injury prevention entitled “Stop the Bleed.”  The course, held on Oct. 12, was open to the public. The day was designed for individuals interested in learning how to intervene in an emergency when someone is bleeding.

Participants learned how to identify the source of bleeding, how to look for life-threatening injuries, and learned basic life-saving medical interventions, including bleeding control with direct pressure, bleeding control with guaze packs, packing a wound, and bleeding control with a tourniquet. Each participant had an opportunity to perform each skill.

“Stop the Bleed” is a nationwide campaign aimed at educating first responders and the general public on how to stop severe bleeding and, potentially, save lives in an emergency.
