Ochsner Health System, Terrebonne General Medical Center Reopen Urgent Care Clinic in Houma

The former MHM Urgent Care location, at 5922 W. Main Street, Suite A in Houma, recently reopened as Ochsner Terrebonne Urgent Care. Ochsner Health System acquired Millennium Health Management, Inc. (MHM) in January, increasing access to convenient, non-emergency care in South Louisiana. Through their strategic partnership, Ochsner Health System (Ochsner) and Terrebonne General Medical Center (TGMC) reopened the urgent care clinic to provide immediate, quality care for Houma residents after-hours and on weekends.

“By reopening our urgent care location in partnership with TGMC, the Houma community now has access to convenient, quality care close to home for non-emergent illness or injury,” said Diedra Dias, Vice President of Urgent Care and Occupational Health Service Lines, Ochsner Health System. “In partnership with TGMC, Ochsner is advancing our goal of ensuring that the most appropriate level of care is accessible to patients when and where they need it.”

“As part of our commitment to providing a vital resource for our communities in Terrebonne Parish and the surrounding parishes, we are happy to participate in this initiative to enhance and expand the care available in accessible venues. In addition, it is important that other options are made available to patients so emergency rooms are not being used for routine care,” said Phyllis Peoples, President and CEO, Terrebonne General Medical Center. “Through an integrated and collaborative experience between both organizations, we are connecting the people of our region with an unprecedented level of care, all available close to home.”

According to Becker’s Healthcare Review, the number of urgent care facilities is expected to increase 5.8 percent each year through 2018 to meet the growing patient demand. Through this partnership, urgent care patients can now experience a coordination of resources that ensures access to the depth and breadth of all Ochsner services.

As part of this partnership, the clinic’s electronic medical record (EMR) has been upgraded to the industry-leading Epic software, greatly expanding the ability of the clinic to coordinate patient care across the entire Ochsner Health System, including strategic partners such as Terrebonne General Medical Center. This transition allows patient information to be securely accessed by all Ochsner and TGMC providers. No matter which Ochsner or TGMC facility a patient chooses to access, the medical staff at that facility will have full access to the patient’s medical record, ensuring a higher level of coordinated care, which can improve outcomes for patients.

In addition to the reopening of the partnered clinic with TGMC, Ochsner Urgent Care is extending the hours at its Thibodaux clinic. The location at 318 North Canal Boulevard is now open two hours earlier, at 9 a.m., on weekdays, in addition to being open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

The reopening of the urgent care clinic in Houma is the latest example of Ochsner Health System and TGMC working together to improve and enhance care in the tri-parish area. Through a strategic partnership formed in 2015, Ochsner and TGMC have expanded access to care, shared best practices, and delivered innovative solutions, so that patients can remain close to home for their healthcare needs. This year alone, Ochsner opened a new, dedicated pediatric subspecialty clinic on TGMC’s campus.
