New Orleans Shaolin-Do Kung Fu & Tai Chi is offering Kung Fu sessions for children, aged six to 12, at two locations this fall.
Uptown sessions are on Tuesdays from 4:30-5:30 p.m., and Bywater sessions are Wednesdays from 5:15-6:15 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m-12 p.m.
Martial arts promote physical, mental, and emotional development in children, forging the brain/body connection, and instilling discipline and self-confidence through goal-setting, consistent effort, and mindful practice. Children are taught safe, practical self-defense techniques and sparring for body and spatial awareness, with an emphasis on self-control.
Kids love that in Kung Fu, they get to pretend to be a Tiger, White Crane, Praying Mantis, or Monkey, building movement fluency through creative play. Kung Fu practice translates into improvement in any sport, dance, or physical activity students may do throughout their lives. It also develops strength, balance, rootedness, explosiveness, agility, speed, grace, and control. Adult Kung Fu and Tai Chi classes are also available.
