Louisiana Healthcare Connections, a Medicaid health plan serving the Louisiana Department of Health, and the Centene Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Centene Corporation, presented a check this week for $36,000 to the Northshore Food Bank to support emergency food assistance for families facing food insecurity across the Northshore region.
The contribution to the Northshore Food Bank is part of a broader $125,000 investment by Louisiana Healthcare Connections and the Centene Foundation to strengthen food access across Louisiana. The funding supports four regional food banks, including the Northshore Food Bank, helping expand emergency food services, increase food distribution, enhance pantry capacity, and deploy mobile food programs in underserved communities.
“This investment reflects our commitment to addressing the social factors that directly impact health,” said Jamie Schlottman, plan president of Louisiana Healthcare Connections. “Northshore Food Bank plays a vital role in ensuring families have access to nutritious food during times of need, and we are proud to support their mission through this partnership.”
The Centene Foundation’s support reinforces a shared focus on whole-person health by addressing basic needs that influence long-term well-being, particularly in rural and low-income communities where access to food remains a persistent challenge.
“Food insecurity continues to affect far too many families in our community,” said Yvette Roussel, CEO of Northshore Food Bank. “This support from Louisiana Healthcare Connections and the Centene Foundation allows us to strengthen our emergency response and reach more neighbors who rely on us for consistent access to food.”
