Touro Ed Staff Travel to Israel to Share Best Practices in Emergency Response

Touro’s Emergency Department representatives Dr. Ryan Bird, Eileen Smith, and Ronnie Landry joined other emergency response professionals from New Orleans on a trip to Israel. Medical and emergency healthcare professionals from throughout the New Orleans area made the trip to learn, and share, best practices for dealing with catastrophic events, from natural disasters, to terrorist attacks.

Doctors, nurses, administrators, and paramedics spent Aug. 5-12 in Israel as part of an initiative by the Jewish Federation of Greater New Orleans and Rosh-Ha'ayin New-Orleans P2G to introduce local medical personnel to Israeli emergency response practices.

Participants of the New Orleans Emergency Response Delegation to Israel, a collaboration of the Jewish Federation of Greater New Orleans and the Jewish Agency for Israel's Partnership 2Gether platform, arrived in Tel Aviv, Israel, where they were welcomed by hosts in nearby Rosh Ha'ayin, Israel. The group spent time at an Israel Defense Force (IDF) medical corps base, and Sheba Medical Center, Israel’s first military hospital, known widely for its clinical research and global training model. Participants also took part in a mass casualty simulation at Carmel Hospital in Haifa, and rode in an ambulance with Magen David Adom, Israel’s national emergency medical service.
