Dr. Sangeeta Shah, Co-Director, Adult Congenital Heart Program and Director, Cardiovascular MRI, John Ochsner Heart and Vascular Institute, was recently elected Louisiana governor of the American College of Cardiology (ACC).
As the voice of the Louisiana cardiology community, Dr. Shah will advise local and state government and professional organizations on issues related to cardiovascular disease and patient access to quality, cost-effective care.
The ACC is a 43,000-member medical society comprised of physicians, surgeons, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists and practice managers, who all aim to transform cardiovascular care and improve hearth health. The College is a leader in the formulation of health policy, standards and guidelines. The ACC provides professional education, operates national registries to measure and improve quality of care, disseminates cardiovascular research and bestows credentials upon cardiovascular specialists who meet stringent qualifications.
Dr. Shah received her Medical Degree from LSU—Shreveport. She initially trained at Ochsner Medical Center for Internal Medicine, followed by additional training in Texas, Florida and Washington, D.C., for cardiology and cardiology subspecialties.
She has authored several articles for Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD), lobbied on Capitol Hill to advocate for the appropriate care of adults with ACHD and was featured as one of New Orleans Magazine's Best Doctors.
Dr. Shah’s term as governor of Louisiana’s American College of Cardiology is a three year term that will start in March 2017 and run through 2021.
