Lakeview Regional Medical Center, Junior League of Greater Covington Host Annual Girls’ Health Day

Lakeview Regional Medical Center, a campus of Tulane Medical Center, in collaboration with the Junior League of Greater Covington, will host their annual Girls’ Health Day on Jan. 25 from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on the Lakeview Regional campus.

This year’s fair aims to educate girls on topics related to health and social issues, with relevant talks and demonstrations on social media and internet safety, Zumba and yoga, puberty and changes to expect, sexual health (optional session due to mature subject matter), seatbelt safety, and how to deal with bullying. The theme, Be Healthy. Be Happy. Be You. Beautiful, is part of the GirlsHealth.gov initiative to promote healthy, positive behaviors in all girls. Girlshealth.gov provides useful information on health issues for girls and tips on handling relationships with family and friends, at school and at home.

“We are thrilled to work with the Junior League of Greater Covington to provide the girls in our community with a strong foundation as they become young women,” said Dr. Brandee Simon-Davis, original organizer of Girls’ Health Day and a physician with Lakeview Regional Physician Group. “This event, geared for girls eight to 14, is an excellent way to connect with your teenager or pre-teen while they learn valuable, and maybe even life-saving lessons.”

Participants can take advantage of free health screenings, including blood pressure assessments, knee and scoliosis screenings, BMI measurements, dental hygiene, and vision testing. Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn how to perform CPR, learn what to do in an emergency by applying a tourniquet to stop the bleed, as well as Be a Doctor for the Day by experiencing a simulated surgical activity. Door prizes and giveaways will also be provided.

For more information on Girls’ Health Day, or to participate, call (985) 867-3900 or register online at LakeviewRegional.com. Reservations are required for this event.
