Children’s Hospital New Orleans Welcomes Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrician Susan Fielkow, MD

Children’s Hospital New Orleans announced the appointment of Susan Fielkow, MD, FAAP, to its growing team of mental and behavioral health providers. A developmental-behavioral pediatrician, Fielkow will serve a critical role as an outpatient pediatric specialist who will evaluate and treat children and adolescents with a wide range of neurodevelopmental and behavioral conditions.

“With the addition of Dr. Fielkow, outpatient behavioral health services at Children’s Hospital will further expand to meet the needs of more child and adolescent patients in our community and across the region,” said George Bisset III, MD, chief medical officer at Children’s Hospital New Orleans. “We are thrilled to add her expertise to our team of pediatric behavioral health providers, as we work diligently to transform behavioral healthcare for children.”

Fielkow treats a variety of conditions affecting children, including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, learning disorders, autism, mild intellectual disabilities, and developmental concerns accompanying some genetic conditions.

Fielkow has more than 37 year of experience in pediatrics, including her service at Ochsner Medical Center and NorthShore University Health Systems in Chicago. As a graduate of Northwestern University and the University of Florida College of Medicine, she completed a pediatric residency at Michael Reese Hospital and pediatric chief of residency at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, Ill. She  is board-certified in both pediatrics and developmental-behavioral pediatrics, and is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

In April 2020, Children’s Hospital New Orleans opened its new, 51-bed Behavioral Health Center, which offers acute inpatient behavioral health treatment in a safe, structured, and nurturing environment for kids ages 7-17 years old. Outpatient services provided at the new center include assessment and treatment of psychiatric and behavioral disorders such as autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and mood disturbance.
