Postpartum depression (PPD) is experienced by one in eight women, and the holiday season can be that much more difficult for mothers experiencing PPD. Marked by more intense feelings of sadness, despair, anxiety, and irritability, PPD causes mothers to experience exacerbated feelings of inadequacy or isolation. DePaul Community Health Centers has services to support women who display symptoms of postpartum depression.

Louisiana and South Carolina currently have the largest numbers of flu cases in the country, according to the CDC.

CDC reports show that flu cases in Louisiana are surging. This has resulted in an increase in ER visits and hospitalizations. 

The Louisiana Department of Health revealed that the state's rate of flu infections is nearly twice that of the national average.

According to LDH, hospitals across the state are also seeing an increase in hospitalizations for RSV and COVID cases.

Ochsner Health announced that Yvens Laborde, MD, has been named chief community medical officer for the medical system. In this new role, Laborde is driving Ochsner’s comprehensive community strategy to promote health equity and further align initiatives under Healthy State, a collaborative effort with government, nonprofit, and business organizations to promote health and wellness in Louisiana.

Terrebonne General Health System has been awarded the Antimicrobial Stewardship Center of Excellence designation by the Infectious Diseases Society of America. The designation recognizes Terrebonne General for creating a stewardship program led by infectious diseases-trained physicians and pharmacists that advance science in antimicrobial resistance. Terrebonne General has also achieved standards aligned with evidence-based national guidelines, such as the IDSA-Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America guidelines and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Core Elements.
