Ochsner Health is offering free urgent care telemedicine visits via Ochsner Anywhere Care to Lake Charles and its area residents who have been displaced due to Hurricane Laura. Impacted individuals can visit with a doctor on their phone, tablet, or computer 24/7 by using the code LAURARELIEF. Free, same-day prescription delivery may also be available in select areas, located within 20 miles of an Ochsner Pharmacy.
As schools re-open in southeast Louisiana, more students will be able to take advantage of mental health services. Access Health Louisiana (AHL) opened five new school-based health center (SBHC) sites in August in Jefferson Parish. This brings the total number of SBHC sites operated by AHL in Jefferson Parish School District to 10. The new schools include Grace King High School and East Jefferson High School in Metairie, Chateau Elementary School in Kenner, Catherine Strehle Community School in Avondale, and Douglass Community School in Gretna.
After three years exclusively providing pediatric care, St. Tammany Health System’s Madisonville clinic at 1520 Highway 22 is transitioning back to caring for the whole family.
Dr. Catherine Pechon joined STHS in July and, operating out of the Madisonville clinic under the St. Tammany Physicians Network banner, is now accepting new patients. Pechon is a board-certified family medicine practitioner with interests in preventative healthcare and wellness, women’s health, and weight management.

Persons diagnosed with diabetes, heart disease, obesity, hypertension, and other chronic conditions remain particularly susceptible to becoming severely ill or dying from the virus.
Louisiana Healthcare Connections announced that six community-based organizations have been awarded funding through the health plan’s COVID-19 Recovery Grants Program.
The COVID-19 Recovery Grants Program awards grants of up to $5,000 each to assist eligible organizations in implementing innovative solutions to address the social service and healthcare needs of those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Organizations selected for funding awards include:
