LAHP Conference Set
for December
The Louisiana Association of Health Plans (LAHP)
will hold its annual conference, December 5, 2013,
at the historic Roosevelt Hotel in downtown New
Orleans. LAHPwill bring together leaders fromthe
largest and most influential healthcare organiza-
tions in the nation for a day devoted to the discus-
sion of health care reform.
The LAHPAnnual Conference attractsmore than
350 attendees representing healthplan executives
and staff, healthcare providers, pharmaceutical
company representatives, insurance produc-
ers, government officials, employers, healthcare
Salles Appointed to Dietetics
and Nutrition Board
Governor Bobby Jindal recently
announced the appointment
of Martina Musmeci Salles,
MPH, RD, LDN, to the Louisi-
anaStateBoardof Examiners
inDietetics andNutrition. The
LouisianaStateBoardof Examin-
ers in Dietetics and Nutrition serves to
regulate the practice of dietitians and nutritionists
by granting licenses to qualified applicants.
Salles is a Registered Dietitian and is self-
employed as a nutrition consultant in Destrehan.
Shewas selected fromnominations submitted by
the Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture and
Forestry, as required by statute.
LHCQF Names New Officers,
Board Members
The Louisiana Health Care Quality Forum has
named newofficers and four newboardmembers
to its Board of Directors for 2013-2014. The new
officers are:
• B. Vindell Washington, MD, MHCM, FACEP,
President (Vice President of Performance Excel-
lence and Technology at Franciscan Missionaries
of Our Lady in Baton Rouge);
• Louis Minsky, MD, President-Elect (Minsky &
CarverMedical Center forWellness inBatonRouge);
• Lemar Marshall, Secretary-Treasurer (Chief
Operating Officer at North Oaks Obstetrics and
Gynecology in Hammond); and
• Donna D. Fraiche, Esq., Member at Large
(Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkow-
itz, PC, in NewOrleans).
In addition, four individuals have joined the
Quality Forum board: Susan E. Nelson, MD, FACP,
FAAHPM (Medical Director, Senior Services, Fran-
ciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System in
Baton Rouge); Stephen Wright (President/CEO of
CHRISTUS Health Louisiana in Alexandria); David
Carmouche (Chief Medical Officer at Blue Cross
Blue Shield of Louisiana in Baton Rouge); and
Glen J. Golemi (President/CEO, Gulf States Region,
UnitedHealthcare in Metairie).
Health Leaders Launch Live Well Louisiana
Public health leaders and business leaders have unveiled a new statewide public
health initiative — LiveWell Louisiana. Winn-Dixie Regional Vice President Karena
Niblett, Children’s Hospital Vice President Brian Landry, and Blue Cross Blue Shield
of Louisiana Diversity Programs and Business Development Director Rod Teamer
joined LiveWell Louisiana Founder Maria Muro, Childhood Family and Learning
Foundation Founder Phyllis Landrieu and NewOrleans Health Department Deputy
Director Charlotte Parent to formally unveil the initiative to the community.
LiveWell Louisiana is an online community of citizens, doctors, hospitals, non-profit
organizations, and government agencies working together to get Louisiana’s health
back on track. The program is the first inclusive health initiative in the state to bring
together so many different organizations for one goal: to empower more Louisian-
ans to make healthier choices through education, support and encouragement.
LiveWell Louisiana has partneredwith themajority of Greater NewOrleans hospi-
tals, including Touro Infirmary, Children’s Hospital, East Jefferson General Hospital,
West Jefferson Medical Center, LSU Health Network, St. Tammany Parish Hospital,
and Slidell Memorial Hospital. External partners also include Winn-Dixie, Tulane
School of Medicine, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana, as well as other local
and national organizations.
Winn-Dixie will include LiveWell Louisiana displays in their Louisiana stores. Cus-
tomers will also be able to pick up various rack cards that provide health tips and
healthy recipes.
