OPMS Appoints Pittman as Executive Director

Orleans Parish Medical Society (OPMS) has selected Jim Pittman to serve as its new executive director. Pittman comes to OPMS with over 30 years of strategic health care, managed care and pharmaceutical marketing, public affairs and business development experience.

“I’m excited to be working with Jim Pittman to help implement our strategic plan,” said Royce Dean Yount, MD, OPMS President. “He’s well suited to help Orleans Parish Medical Society meet the challenges of delivering health care in the New Orleans area.”

Founded in 1878, the mission of OPMS is to serve as the voice of and advocate for the medical profession in the Greater New Orleans area for the benefit of patients and the community, and as a primary proponent of the ethical practice of medicine.

As Executive Director, Pittman will work closely with Orleans Parish Medical Society leadership to identify, develop and pursue strategic initiatives to:

• Serve as the local and regional voice of physicians and patients;

• Serve the professional needs of physicians;

• Develop strategic alliances to improve the public’s health; and

• Manage the operational aspects of the association.

A native of the Greater New Orleans area, Pittman has directed successful campaigns for public, private and non-profit organizations, contributing to start-ups, product launches, turnarounds and public offerings. He has developed and implemented strategy for Ochsner Health Plan, Peoples Health, Archdiocese of New Orleans Catholic Charities and Catholic Schools, LHC Group, AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals, West Jefferson Medical Center, Kushner Heart Clinic, JEDCO, Tenet Healthcare, Daughters of Charity Health Centers and the launch of St. Bernard Parish Hospital.

Since January 2014, Pittman has served as an advocate and spokesperson for the Smoking Cessation Trust. He currently serves on the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Louisiana Advocacy Leadership Committee and has recently been appointed to the Advisory Board for the Alzheimer’s Association Louisiana Chapter.

Jim Pittman is a graduate of Holy Cross High School and the University of New Orleans.
