LSU Health’s Lazarus Elected to NRMP Board

Cathy Lazarus, MD, FACP, associate dean for Student Affairs and Records at LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine, is one of five people recently elected to a four-year term on the board of directors of the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).

Using a computerized mathematical algorithm, the National Resident Matching Program matches medical school graduates with available positions at U.S. residency programs. It is governed by a 19-member board of directors, which includes medical school deans, institutional officials and clinical program directors, resident/fellow physicians, and medical students.

“The Nominating Committee received a large number of nominations of accomplished, well-qualified individuals,” said NRMP Board Chair-Elect Dr. Steven Scheinman. “The committee was especially impressed by the five remarkable individuals who have been elected.  We look forward to working with our new colleagues as they contribute their wisdom to the NRMP.”

Lazarus has served on numerous committees and task forces of the National Board of Medical Examiners, and is an Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine graduate. She has chaired committees and task forces for the American Medical Women's Association, Generalists in Medical Education, Arnold P. Gold Foundation, Physicians for Reproductive Choice and Health, and the Louisiana Chapter of the American College of Physicians, where she also served as secretary of the Governor's Council. Lazarus has also served as an associate editor, editor, and as a member of the editorial board of a number of journals.

Her term begins July 1, 2019.
