DCHC’s Read for Your Health Program Assisted with New Books

The Reach Out and Read National Center (Boston, Mass.) recently provided Daughters of Charity Health Centers (DCHC) with a large shipment of new books for DCHC’s Read for Your Health program.

An initiative of Reach Out and Read, Read for Your Health makes literacy promotion a standard part of pediatric primary care. DCHC providers “prescribe” age-appropriate books to patients, from infants to age six, during pediatric well-visits, stimulating early brain development and building children’s mental muscles.

“We take great pride in providing care for the whole person. Read for Your Health enhances our ability to further assist our young patients,” said Sister Bonne Hoffman, DCHC’s vice president for mission integration. “Given the program’s positive outcomes, we are working to expand this offering to all 10 of our health centers.”

Dr. Seuss Day, celebrated annually in March, represents a fun time for DCHC’s providers and patients. Staff members dress up in costumes of Seuss’s beloved characters and engage children in various reading activities.
